Intern Phase

Journalism Overview
Unique opportunities to spend 6 weeks working for a local newspaper or radio station in Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania, becoming involved in all aspects of their business.  Perfectly placed to add a further 4 weeks of volunteering at the coast providing a varied and exciting gap year placement.
 
Arusha Times – 2 intern per departure
The Arusha Times is a small media firm established in 1995. It has one senior editor, one assistant editor and 4 employees. They produce a weekly paper, with a circulation of about 5000 covering local news and sports paid for by business advertising.
 
Tanzania Talks Radio Station – 1 intern per departure
The local radio station for Arusha and surrounding areas.  It is extremely popular and renowned for its interviews, music, stories and business advertising.
 
Typical Tasks
Researching stories and pictures.
Writing stories/reports.
Learning about production from start to finish – including printing and design, art work etc.
Sales meeting with local advertisers.
Managing local distribution.
 
Skills and Experience
No experience necessary but a willingness and enthusiasm essential!
 
This placement is perfect if you’re interested in a career in the competitive world of media and will give your CV an edge! Add on 4 weeks of volunteering, at the coast, and you’ll complete a dynamic placement overseas.
