Angele’s Kenyan Masai naming ceremony!
filed in Announcements, Gap Year, Kenya, Solo on Oct.19, 2010
Hi Guy,
No worries, I’m actually having no problems adjusting. I love the placement and am learning as much as sharing my own skills. I have been working with Greg on some marketing ideas I’ve had and he has been great with running with them.
We had our Thanksgiving dinner with the staff yesterday and it was delicious. The staff used this opportunity to give me a Masai name in a blessing ceremony. I was very honored as even Greg does not have a Masai name. I am now called “Naserian” which means holy name. Greg says that the Masai enjoy my company and respect me greatly which is, as Greg puts it, a great achievement for a woman. The guys in camp are like brothers.
The nanny in you will be glad to know that as far hydrating myself, there isn’t a moment in the day I am not carrying my water bottle. I typically only drink H20 with the occasional drink for dinner. I am wearing plenty of sunscreen and put on my hat when I’m out of camp.
On a side note, I am finally used to the wildlife calls at night so sleep is no longer a problem…unless I stay up late watching a movie in the dining tent.
Otherwise, my feet are firmly grounded and this newbie is having a ball learning.
Thanks for checking up on me.
Angele

Hey Angele (aka “Naserian”),
So glad you are enjoying your “adventure” so far. The leaves on the trees are funny this year. The maples in the front of the property have all turned and the two small ones are now “leafless”. My snowball bush and flowering crab are still full of leaves and just starting to turn now. We’ve had to scrap a few mornings already.
Nick made the provincial boys basketball team, so my week is busy with 4 practices plus away games. Heading to Fredericton for this weekend.
Melanie is in the midst of mid-terms and has pulled a couple of all-nighters for papers!!! Oh well, live and learn.
Mom just got back from visiting Rachel in Edmonton and had a good trip.
Miss talking to you!
