The Leap’s partner in Ecuador is Yanapuma, an NGO (Non-Government Organisation) based in Quito. Yanapuma Foundation is an Ecuadorian and UK registered charity working together with local and international partners to bring about lasting change for the people of Ecuador.

Here’s a glimpse at their 2009 Annual Report by the lovely Andy Kirby, Executive Director:

2009 was a year of sustained growth for Yanapuma and all of us were heartened to see our hard work paying off and thankful for the support that we received from our students, interns, donors, and supporting organizations.

We are lucky to count on a dedicated group that forms the Yanapuma staff, who relish team work, and collaboration under challenging conditions and whose principal aspirations are a job well done rather than seeking purely personal gain. It is a pleasure working in such an environment, despite the work load and the financial uncertainty.

Balancing our potential income against our committed expenses is always a delicate task. We strive to achieve as much as possible, sometimes over-reaching ourselves a little as we struggle to make ends meet and maintain our committment to the projects and communities that we support. But we are learning as we go and feel thankful to have survived these past three and a half years of continued growth. And we look forward to meeting the challenges that we have created for ourselves in 2010 with enthusiasm and determination.
