Gap Year Football
filed in Announcements, Kenya, South Africa on Jul.09, 2009
Interested in playing football on your Gap Year? We don’t blame you and you really don’t need to sign up for an intense sports placement to get a bit of footy in during your gap year. Lets face it this game is a universal language and getting out a football and having a kick about with the locals anywhere in the world is a wicked way to outsmart the language barrier! Football is a language that is understood over Africa, Asia and Latin America alike and what better way to get the conversation going!? It can also lead to some great friendships…just ask our leapers!
Gap Year football can also be the basis for a fantastic cultural exchange between you and the locals and won’t just break the ice, it will smash right through it!! Our leapers along with the local school kids went so football mad at Kwa Madwala Game Reserve (in South Africa) the kids were encouraged to start their own football teams and have never looked back! In Ecuador, local communities are mad keen on football and challenge the Leapers whenever they’re not working to friendly matches- which combined with a visit to the National Stadium in Quito makes for an awesome sports experience. And one of our our Leap teams of volunteers heading to Kenya, being as lovely as they are took a donated team strip with them for the players at the local school and became friends for life! So if you fancy a game or 2 whilst on your Gap Year get overseas and get kicking…………
