Kenya Team: Jan ’10 – Birthday News!
filed in Kenya on Jan.18, 2010
It’s the lovely Poppy’s 19th Birthday today and the Kenya team are helping her celebrate in style…read on to hear about her unusual birthday!
“Hello! I have had a really good day today, I was woken up by everyone singing happy birthday outside my tent and then everyone came in (VERY HOT) and gave me presents (home made) and cards and things, and then our lovely cook Titus made me pancakes because he knows they are my favourite and there were balloons on my chair : )
We have just come down from the first camp in Mwulaganje to the beach. The place we were before was an elephant reserve and basically is was just a massive area of land that they did with electric fences for the elephants to live so the villagers could live outside of it without getting killed. By massive amount of land for the elephants I mean it would literally take you days to drive from one side to the other. The villagers who live outside it help maintain it and then they share the tourist profits it makes between all of them.
Our Group is amazing, there are 12 of us: Me, Tilly, Milly, Hattie, Hannah, Natalie, Athlyn, Laura, Fi, Toni, George and Orlando and they are the funniest group of people, we all feel like we’ve known each other for ages and we spend all day laughing.
The work has been very hard but good fun- the funniest thing is road maintenance in the boiling heat and sun, and it’s the type of physical work I wouldn’t even want to do on a normal day in England…I’m going to come back stacked! I am kept awake a lot at night by Hyena and Elephant and hordes of frogs and last night we had to kill a snake.”
lots of love.
