This report just in from Louise, the South Africa Leap project leader…

The orphanage Outreach programme which was launched by the April Leap team is doing fantastically well and being added to in phases by Leap teams throughout 2009/10. No sooner had the cement floor dried in phase one than the local school moved in with 20 pre-schoolers, previously taught under the shade of an Acacia! The playground equipment built by the leapers has become more popular than even we thought…imagine 12 toddlers on a see-saw if you can ?

Other Projects Making News this Year

The student outdoor ‘Boma’ (a large, circular, partially enclosed, around-a-fire-entertainment area) is complete! Thanks to the participants in September, who initiated the project, and to the January group who got to throw the ‘roof” wetting party. It’s a great venue for those get-in-touch-with-your-’antsisters’ evenings. You guys looked great in reed skirts and we’ve got the pictures to prove it – check out facebook. The current close-to-house project is the laying out a of a bush beach volley ball court. Everyone is gung-ho in the preparation of the area and collecting and the sifting of river sand. Also on the cards is the erection of a viewing platform at the elephants mud bath dam.On Wildlife and Adventure

Conservation Update

Our wild baby ellies are proving to be quite feisty (so would you be, with a two tonner Momma as a backup!). There were some entertaining moments when the one little guy had delusions of grandeur and attempted to charge the safari vehicle. The party moments at Gazebo appeal to more than just the

students because the term ‘Party animal’ seems to have an entirely new meaning. The courting hippos, that have numerous other more peaceful dams to choose from, have moved into the dam on our door step!
