This is the team once they had completed the painting of their orphanage room.

Hello!

The last week has gone well, another constructive week!

The South Africa team finished off the building at the orphanage this week, the room is complete included painting, Plastering, flooring, roofing and every other -ing! We had a day where we focused on birds, including a bird walk and bird drive, unfortunately the weather wasn’t the greatest, but it was good to focus on things often overlooked.

Some of the students acted as ellie grooms for the day also which they enjoyed! We had our survival night on Friday, where we slept out in the bush in the ‘boma’ the team had built during conservation week earlier on in the program. Basic survival techniques like finding direction using the sun and stars were shown, which plants are edible and how to tell this world-wide, how to find and make water, how to make rope from trees etc, unfortunately the carnivore expert could not make it and survival night was the fill-in. We are trying to rearrange this and hopefully will be able to fit it in within the next two weeks.

Yesterday we went to have lunch with the ANC dignitaries and the group got to meet fiery Julius Malema, ANCYL president.

This upcoming week a community walk is taking place, which involves walking in the local community and seeing what rural life is like. The group is also sleeping out at the ellie stables one night and to end off the week we are all going through to ‘Bushfire’, a music festival in Swaziland.

Hope all is good with you

Thanks Luke
