Hey everyone!

Not that much to report for the last week…

We had such a nice weekend relaxing by the pool last Saturday in the sun topping up that tan but on Sunday we decided that we wanted to get some action by going on a camel safari. We were told by out driver Jimmy that it wasn’t far…well after a 2 hour journey over some very bumpy Tanzanian roads we finally arrived! i have def become used the the African way of life, generally when you ask how far something is the response is  ‘it’s not far’ or ‘we will be only an hour’ this turns in to 3 hours. So whatever you’re told, add a few hours on to that time lol…

We arrived at the camels and had a 2 hour safari on them. It was really cool but man did my bum hurt by the end of it and we were all walking like we needed the bathroom for a while!  That was an awesome but rather long day as we didn’t get back ’til late. we stopped of at Mc Moodys, which was meant to be a ‘fast’ food place and again it is Africa but as this is Tanzania we waited 20min for our burger, by which point we were starving!

This week we have been working at CCF (Center for children’s futures) where we have been digging (at this point we are experts!) a vegetable garden for the kids at the center. We first had to dig up the ground and make beds and on Tuesday we brought veggies that we started to plant. It was a lot of fun as we had some good help from some of the older boys that were not at school yet.

I missed out on the rest of the week as on Wednesday I woke up feeling ill and coughing so I stayed back and drank lots of orange juice that was made for me while Jacob, V and Lucy finished the garden. On Thursday I was taken to the hospital which was a little scary as they are not like ours and I didn’t really know what was being told to me but thankfully Lucas the cook came with me and I had a test for malaria, thankfully it was negative so they just gave me medication for the flu and told me to rest. Phew!

Yesterday me and V were invited to a family party as Mathias’s wife’s brother is getting married soon and it is traditional here for the Mum’s to be officially introduced, all the females of the family gather at the wife to be’s house for chat and food. It was really cool to be invited to this and experience their culture, we both had a lot of fun and the food was really good as well! I like that in Tanzania people don’t think twice about inviting you to intimate family gatherings and you’re treated just like a member of the family.

I am excited for next week as we are going to Lake Manyra and then we have planned a Safari to the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, so that will be really exciting and i will try and post some photos soon..
