Borneo Team Update: Farewell to Tinangol!
filed in Borneo on Apr.21, 2010
Hello again, I Just got back from Tinangol and witnessed an emotional farewell between the Leapers and staff/community. They have all grown really attached to them for the last 3 weeks and saying goodbye seems the hardest thing to do.
A lot was achieved, experienced and shared the last few weeks in the Tinangol community so here are briefly what they have been up to over the past weeks :
Project : completed peeling-off 25 coconut posts with machete and varnishing them for the kindie structure. They have also been assisting teachers teaching English at Tinangol Primary School on a rotational basis.
Activities : The team played friendly (and rather sweaty!) football and badminton matches with Camp Borneo staff and community. Organised Sports day with the community on the last week at Camp.
Social & Sightseeing & Weekends : The group got the opportunity to visit KK town for a couple of days, visited the Sunday Market at Kota Belud district, The Tip of Borneo, Gong Making place, the Bee Farm and Loro Kecil Beach which they have enjoyed very much…and of course there were social nights with the staff and community with karaoke machine and theme party at the Camp.
Generally, all are very happy but sad to leave Camp Tinangol, but on to the next program they go bringing with them the great team-spirit they have since day 1! The Kinabatangans is their next exciting destination. The only slight concern is that a few of the team have threatened to kidnap the Tinangol cook as she is fantastic and has fed them so well!
Cheers
Mel (Borneo Project Leader)
