Hattie’s (final) Argentina Blog: Polo 2010
filed in Argentina on May.25, 2010
Since coming back from Argentina I honestly haven’t been able to stop going on about my time there, my friends are sick of hearing about it! I miss everybody, the polo… Hmmm. Must say the Spanglish efforts are improving, I can now vaguely converse with a taxi driver, understand half a menu and name every item in a tack room.
You’d be pleased to know that the some of La Asuncion crew had a bit of a reunion last weekend and played a little polo at Druid’s Lodge. For myself in particular it was brilliant knowing that when I left for Argentina I couldn’t even hold a mallet and now, three months on, I was galloping the length of a polo field hitting the ball to people who had been playing for a few years at university, and best of all that I wasn’t getting in the way and had some idea of what was happening!
It has inspired all of us (and I know that sounds a cliche but it’s true!) to continue playing for our universities and join clubs – polo is truly addictive! We all seem to be working overtime shifts to pay for further lessons, and a plan is in the pipeline to return to Argentina for the Open and to visit the friends we made out there.
Muchos gracias Diego! Y the Leap for the most amazing gap year EVER. Estupendo.
Hattie. x
