The Leap Team 2, have left the coast and are now in Ecuador’s Andes Mountains, was off to a great start on Tuesday as they arrived to the quiet community of Chilcapamba. We worked hard this week painting a nursery and have just recently completed a set of mountains on one wall as well as repainting all the old walls which had kid´s felt tip drawings and scratches all over them. One day it rained so we spent the day indoors peeling and sorting beans. We were given a mini-tour of the community, especially the artisan workshop back behind the house where we stay. There we learned that 90% of the good sold in the large indigenous market are sold by third parties, so our hosts encouaged us to buy directly from them, a practice in real fair trade. This weekend we went to the big market and searched for the items not available to us in the community; the market is the largest indigenous market in Latin America!
