Ecuador Team 2 Update: The Beach
filed in Ecuador on Apr.20, 2011
Hola from the Pacific Coast of Ecuador!
Three weeks in and the team (Rachel, Serena, Charlie, Aman, Alex and Joel and Ellie) have been boldly enjoying and relishing in their new homes near the sand in the gorgeous little village of Estero de Plátano. We all live on the same street (there are about three streets in the town so it’s not hard!) and have been working hard in the mornings on refurbishing the local church which previously had an uneven dirt floor. It now has a concrete floor in the main room and in the back room, a front patio, and a small wall to close in the patio as well as an altar. This has been helpful because the church is an provides an important meeting and worship place for the villager and before we started the project every time it rained, canals and bumps formed all over the floors, making it unusable. Tomorrow we will be teaching English to 10-14 year olds and then putting the finishing touches to the church. We also hope to take a trip to a waterfall in the afternoon tomorrow as a treat after a couple weeks of work.
Hope all is well back home and that the sun is starting to come out…sending some of our copious sunshine your way!
Ariel (Ecuador project Leader)
