Sofie’s Team @ the Coast: Emily, Caroline, Eliza, Alexa, George, Catherine, Kieran, Emily, Georgie and Hannah Kauffman.
Sofie´s group went to the coastal town of Mompiche for the weekend after their second week in Caimito. Alexa and Catherine decided to stay in Atacames as Catherine is having some trouble with a bank card and they wanted to sort it out. They’ve invested in ketchup after the first week (food out here is pretty bland tasting!) and the situation at mealtimes is now much improved!
The group have been working hard on the building site all week but on Thursday they had a day in the children´s nursery where they cleared up the beds in preparation for the children to plant. The Nursery project has been developed by George, a local biologist, to teach the children of Caimito better and more environmentally friendly farming techniques. The idea is for them to grow a diverse range of fruits and vegetables, which may not be available on their parents’ farms. On Friday the team finished off their work at the school by painting all of the chairs and desks. Next week they will be working in the children’s garden every day. Everyone’s enjoying the variety in the work which is good.
Davis’ Team @ the Rainforest: Jessie, Louise, Ellie, Alice, Izzy, Harvey, Hannah Byrne, Eloise, Lauren and Mark.
The past week in the Rainforest went really smoothly. The group worked at the Cultural Centre everyday building a covered walkway, the group are really enjoyed doing (particuarly after lots of work in the first week chopping down leaves- variety is the spice of life!). The community in Bua are putting on some fantastic ‘cultural activities’ which everyone appreciates and there should be some entertaining photos up here soon so you can see them all n action…going fully native! You may also see a few of them enjoying the delights of Ecuadorian health spas, which proved a worthy reward for all their hard work : )
Sit tight, there’s more coming soon…
