Update from Team 1 in Ecuador
filed in Ecuador on Jan.19, 2011
Hola!
The teams first week in Chilcapamba (the community in the Andes) went very well. We spent the week building a new house for an elderly woman in the community, as the wall of her old house had caved in and it was unsafe for her to live in. We spent one day removing the tiles from the roof of the old house in order to salvage as many of them as possible. Then we spent many of the days cutting down and stripping wood to be used for the roof of her new house. On Friday we only worked in the morning and in the afternoon we were given a tour of the community and we also bought some artisan crafts from the local women.
This week has been quite monotonous, as we had to strip the bark off of many tree branches, but we all agree that the project is worthwhile as the woman will be much safer in her new house! Next week we will begin work on the artisan market.
Here are some photos of the team in action…
All the best,
Kelly
