Leapers in Venezuela last week launched a facebook group page to promote their marine conservation campaign in La Mochima National Park. Join the group and show your support for this fantastic cause:

“Hi there, we are a team of intrepid gap yearers working for a gap year company called The Leap. Our current project is the clean up and renovation of a single tiny island called La Piscina, off the coast of Puerto la Cruz. La Piscina has a solitary derelict building, and is surrounded by coral reef. The building has been left to ruin, and has been subjected to graffiti and the dumping of rubbish. The reef has and is being damaged by irresponsible anchoring, and therefore the biodiversity of the reefs has decreased dramatically.

Our aim: to use La Piscina as an example of conservation and the difference caring for your environment can make. We are restoring the building and making it an information centre for the locals, to educate and raise awareness of the damage being done to their environment. We have already seen the difference previous leap teams have made, and so we hope this information centre will encourage the locals to look after all of their environment, not just the beaches we have targeted. We are also hoping to inspire gap yearers not only travelling with The Leap, to visit La Piscina and be able to appreciate this piece of paradise.

We hope our successors will update this facebook page we have set up so that we can see the progress this island makes. Ciao for now, adios amigos!
