Venezuela Team Update: Jan ’10
filed in Venezuela on Jan.08, 2010
Hi, Brendan here- the project leader in Venezuela!
Well, our first team of Leapers arrived on Monday night (after a couple of snowy flight delays!!) and so far everything going really well, we’re very pleased with the 7 volunteers in the team who are all in a great mood and potential for what they can achieve on the project is huge.
There are 7 of them in the team- all staying for 10 weeks (they’re obviously suckers for sunshine!): Jesse, Pip, Lexa, Roberta, Joe, Emma and Indi.
This past week they have taken public transport into town, taken a walking tour of the local village (understanding social issues relevant for their 2nd project where they’ll be working directly with the community), visited the caribbean island and beach where project 1 is to take place by fishing boat, practiced climbing on our 10m climbing wall, received 10 hours of Spanish class and tonight they will have a salsa dance class, they will also receive a kayak class on Monday and then begin kayaking out to Island and begin project 1. It’s been a busy one!
Regarding project 1, the beach renovation and conservation initiative, we already have set a plan and schedule for project 1 with realistic aims and objectives, all volunteers have received individual job roles. We’re ready to roll!
Jesse and Joe have also joined the local football team and will begin training next week, and help the team with pitch renovation. Watch this space.
Thanks all, we’ll update you again soon! Happy Winter wonderland.
