I hope all is well in snowy England! Here in Tanzania everything is fine and the whole team are back in Arusha after spending a week in Lake Manyara National Park, their safari phase. A few of the girls in the team have had a little skirmish with Malaria but they’re all doing fine now and applying layer upon layer of anti-mosquito spray! The team are all doing very well and are loving being back home to their base in Arusha….which really does feel like home now!

As well as the projects at Lake Manyara and their game drive in the

National Park, last week was a chance for all the volunteers to experience life on Safari. Kalinda and Alex came back last evening after their amazing time in the mighty Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. They were lucky enough to capture a cheetah killing a rabbit for lunch in the Serengeti plains. Their pictures are amazing and I have asked them to upload them here so we can put them on the blog, so watch this space.

There was some talk about the team heading up to Kenya next weekend with Adam, one of the project leaders who they all get along with. He’s from Kenya and was really keen to show them around but it looks like they’ll be heading to Kilimanjaro next weekend now instead to do some hiking around the foothills. The offer will still be there at the end of the placement if anyone wants to add a trip over the border to their independent travels!

The whole Mtui family loves this team very much – we’ve really enjoyed their enthusiasm and energy even when people have been unwell. The Leapers have all been a big source of strength and home for me and my wife Mama Jojo when Joaquina our little one got sick and hospitalized with pneumonia this last weekend. In Africa our extended families are a big source of courage and hope in difficult times
and this group of Leapers were exactly that when we needed them. Thanks a lot to The Leap for sending us this awesome youngsters!!!

This week we were supposed to paint a government school close to our home base but it was not possible because of a communication between the regional commissioners’ office and the school administration, but this has now been resolved. The people we have previously worked with at Camp

Moses and Camp Joshua schools have asked the Leapers to add more shelves on their food store and this is what they are doing this week. In fact the Leapers have told me that they like this even more than the original project planned because they felt like they have done enough painting in Arusha already!

Some of the leapers, Kalinda, Alex and Rebeca have sponsored a number
