Our 24 intrepid Summer Leapers have just come back from Mwalganje elephant sanctuary having spent 2 weeks working with rangers and assisting the community with tree planting and elephant conservation initiatives (including making paper from elephant dung- lovely!). They’re now settling into life at the coast in Makongeni and making a start on community projects in the area.

The Kenya team will be spending this week at Chanukeni Orphanage where they will be helping to construct a new classroom and kitchen. In addition we have put some of the Leap project funds aside to give a donation of quite a lot of necessary food items for the orphanage and also to help towards getting the local volunteer teacher through teacher training college.

We also have a very new exciting community based project that we want to get involved with. It will be marine based (about 10 mins walk from the Leap camp) and will be working with a local community group who are doing eco-friendly fish and crab farming as well as restoring a mangrove forest. We’ll keep you posted as to how they get on there.

Over and Out!
