Kenya

Kenya has a multitude of spectacular National Parks, each vastly different in character including the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo, Meru and Samburu. In addition, it is blessed with the Indian Ocean  with miles of white sandy beaches fringed with palm trees.

Safari Camps and Lodges

The Leap works exclusively with a number of luxury lodges/safari camps located throughout this amazing country to provide our unique voluntary work placements.

Each lodge or camp has its own style, environment and local tribes that they work in partnership with.  You will find yourselve becoming totally immersed in safari life, making invaluable contributions to the local communities and conservation initiatives.

The work and specific activities vary from camp to camp so have a look at the camps listed below to see which appeals.

Placement in Focus

Cottars 1920 Camp

Cottars safari started in 1919 with 5 generations of the Cottars family organising safaris. Cottars 1920s camp is an original super luxury safari camp.

It is situated in the Maasai Mara bordering the Serengeti and Loliondo Reserves in an untouched 22,000 acre concession.  It is famous for its beauty and wildlife, including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and plains game.

Helping Who?

The Maasai tribe, Cottars Camp

Helping How?

Leap 1

Camp

This small luxury tented camp needs volunteers to help the friendly team of local staff in every aspect of running the camp.

This includes helping out with building and repairing roads, building staff accommodation, general maintenance of the tents and setting up and taking down their mobile safaris. Volunteers will get the chance to go out with the guides whilst helping with camp duties like bar stocks, dealing with clients etc.

Leap 2 & 3

Conservation & Community

Cottars does not have any specific conservation or community projects for volunteers to work at.  However, by working and immersing yourself in the local culture you will see and become involved with the simple initiatives managers implement to improve the lives of the local communities and protect the environment. For example, teaching of English, animal snare collection, erosion control, vehicle and tourist impact on animal behaviour etc.
