Think you’ve missed the boat on Gap Years? Think again!
If you are at university and are looking for something exciting and worthwhile to do during your holidays, or your are a recent graduate resisting the rat race and you fancy doing something more challenging than lazing on a beach with your mates, then venture out on one of our placements.
With amazing volunteer opportunities from Managing luxurious Safari Camps in the Maasai Mara to teaching English to indigenous kids in the Amazon, The Leap has something to suit all tastes.
Around a third of the Leapers we send away are over 20 years old so you’ll be in great company. So, don’t follow the graduate crowd, meandering like a lost sheep from one aimless, unsatisfying temp job to the next…test your skills, stretch your brain and experience a once in a lifetime opportunity that will benefit your life and career forever!
In all our placements you'll find...
Variety
The combination of projects in each placement reflects the many different faces of a country, providing a real and honest insight into their world. The variety provides contrasting challenges and experiences
Legacy
Approximately 65% of the cost is spent in-country. Over the years we have built classrooms, sponsored children and improved the health of many communities.
Matching Expectations
With our variety of programs and in-depth consultation process, we are confident we can match our expectations.
Independent Travel
Weekends off to explore or relax, flights are easily extendable and should you decide to do some traveling after the scheme has finished, you will always find other Leapers or people to travel with. A Leap placement equips you with knowledge, confidence and cultural awareness to go it alone and get off the back packer trail. We will happily recommend safe and economical means of getting around.
You can also build a Leap placement into your full gap year itinerary by combining it with a round the world flight ticket, allowing you to head off before or after your placement. You can perhaps do a ski season and then visit other continents to meet up with friends – remember you have 15 months!
Skills and work experience
In a competitive graduate jobs market where thousands of people with the same degree classification are applying for the same career, how can you make sure your CV stands out?
The answer is to take a structured gap year, which develops and showcases your abilities and leaves you with the experience and motivation it takes to succeed, that’s how! Show employers you’ve got what it takes to organise, fund raise and work your way across the Wilds of Africa or Pampas of Argentina, all the while giving something back to those less fortunate, and you’ll make a lasting impression they wont forget in a hurry. Don’t just talk about soft skills you have, demonstrate and develop them by taking a gap year and bag the graduate job of your dreams!
Why not spend part of your degree working overseas gaining practical experience in your chosen field or future career?
What better way to actually see first hand what it’s really like in your chosen field - it will certainly help add an important dimension to your CV, useful when applying for that competitive job position.
Dissertation
A Leap placement could easily provide you with the practical environment on which to base your dissertation.
Working and living amongst your subject matter will undoubtedly help you add another dimension to this all-important part of your degree.
If you’re hoping to go on to graduate study in conservation, development or languages, a placement with The Leap is the ideal opportunity to see theories applied outside of the classroom, to inform your opinions and gain practical experience to aid future study.
