Discover how to infuse Midlife Adventures into your daily routine, embracing curiosity, overcoming fears, and thrive. Easier said than done, or is it?

Hello fellow Midlifers,

Lately, I've been wondering if there's more to life than the daily grind. And yes, I admit, I might have been a bit tiresome about it. Blame it on the sweltering heat last week that had me seeking refuge in dark rooms to manage my menopausal sweats. Even the youth in the office have had enough and decided it's time for an intervention. Their verdict: stop obsessing over wrinkles, ditch the granny bikinis (yesterday's mistake), and start living the Midlife philosophy I preach - on a daily basis and not just saved up for the Midlife Adventures overseas.

This is why I’ve embraced (more like forced) hot pod yoga (a newfound love), cacao ceremonies (tear-jerking), and gong baths (snooze-inducing). Next on their agenda for me: ice baths, wild swimming, paddle tennis, and—horror of horrors—a day without my phone. Apparently, my new mantra should be "YOMO" - You Only Midlife Once. And BTW this isn’t referring to our Midlife adventures; I need at least two of those a year to stay sane.

The youth have reminded me that:

Adventure is a State of Mind

Getting philosophical. Adventure isn’t just about what we do; it’s about how we think. Embracing an adventurous outlook can rejuvenate our spirit and keep us perpetually young. Here's how we can do it:

Embrace Curiosity: Cultivate a curious mind. Approach each day as a mini-adventure, discovering excitement in the most unexpected places. Start by taking a different route to work or trying a new cuisine. It's the little things that can spark big changes in our perspective.

FYI - the cacao ceremonies fitted this brief - despite my headache it was a facinating experience.

Overcome Fear: Fear is that unwelcome guest who dampens the party. Evict it and take bold leaps. Our future selves will be grateful. Whether it's speaking up in a meeting, starting a new hobby, or traveling solo, overcoming fear builds confidence and opens doors to new experiences.

FYI - I feel hot-pod yoga fits this remit as I normally hate being too hot as it reminds of being lost in jungle for 4 days when i was 25 - ( it's a long story.)

Stay Flexible: True adventure often requires a go-with-the-flow attitude. Be prepared to adapt and seize opportunities as they arise. Life rarely goes according to plan, and that’s where the magic happens. Embrace the unexpected detours and view them as part of the journey.

FYI - I never made it to beach last week and didn't sulk...and i tried a different flavour of crisp...chilli sensations were all sold out.

Set Goals: Adventurous goals infuse life with excitement. Whether mastering a new skill, like painting or scuba diving, or exploring a new country, striving for something keeps the flame of adventure burning bright. Write down your goals and set a timeline to achieve them. This gives you something to look forward to and work towards.

FYI - I need to get my knees strong for my Peru Midlife adventure.

Appreciate the Journey: It’s not solely about reaching the destination. Every step of our adventure, including the missteps, enriches our story. Reflect on your experiences, both good and bad, and see how they’ve shaped you. This practice fosters gratitude and resilience.

FYI - I've booked into seeing a councillor to talk about my embracing this Midlife adventure.

Now, apparently if we say “yes” to adventure, it will be worth every second of that initial “What was I thinking?”

Personal Growth: Every adventure, whether it’s trekking to Machu Pichu or learning to salsa, teaches us something new about ourselves. We’re a lot more capable than we give ourselves credit for. These experiences will push us out of our comfort zones and help us discover strengths we never knew we had.

Broadening Perspectives: Seeing the world through someone else’s eyes is the best way to expand our horizons. Plus, it’s a great excuse to try weird and wonderful foods. Travel and cultural exchange challenge our preconceived notions and teach us to appreciate diversity.

Fostering Gratitude: When we help build a school or teach English in a remote village, we’ll appreciate our own lives a whole lot more. It’s like a gratitude shot in the arm. Volunteering and giving back to communities not only make a difference in others’ lives but also bring immense satisfaction and joy to us

Rekindling Passion: Remember that hobby we loved but never had time for? Or that dream we shelved? Adventures have a way of reigniting those flames (and we're not talking about our teenage crush). Pursuing our passions brings a sense of fulfillment and happiness that’s often missing in the daily grind.
