Find purpose and renewal on this Sri Lankan Adventure

Join Astrid Harrisson, co-founder of Hotpod Yoga Marlborough, for eight unforgettable days that mix the grounding power of yoga with hands-on volunteering at a women’s empowerment centre.

Twice-daily yoga with Astrid will set the tone, as her gentle breathwork and mindful movement bring calm and clarity to each day. Imagine starting your mornings with sunrise yoga at Tekanda Lodge, a serene hilltop retreat nestled in a tea plantation, recently spotlighted by Condé Nast Traveller. Surrounded by lush paddy fields, you’ll feel energized and ready for a perfect blend of discovery and purpose.

Beyond the mat, immerse yourself in the local community at the Gamata Atak Women’s Empowerment Centre. Here, you’ll share valuable skills like cooking, computing, and conversational English, helping local women grow their confidence and careers in tourism. It’s a real chance to connect with Sri Lankan culture and feel the heartbeat of everyday life through shared stories and laughter.

The adventure doesn’t stop there. Between yoga and volunteering, dive into the thrill of Sri Lanka’s iconic beaches—perfect for catching some waves and trying your hand at surfing. And for a crowning moment, a five-hour hike up to Ella’s Peak promises stunning views over tea plantations and bamboo forests, giving you that feeling of achievement that only comes from a good challenge.

This is more than a retreat; it’s a chance to blend mindfulness with adventure and leave feeling fully refreshed, connected, and inspired.

Central Highlands Elephants + Hikes + Challenge

Your journey continues in the breathtaking Central Highlands, where you’ll stay at Amba Estate, a charming, community-run organic farm perched above Ravana-Ella Waterfalls with sweeping views of Ella Rock and Lipton’s Seat. At Amba, you’ll discover the farm’s artisanal teas, coffees, spices, and preserves while learning about its inspiring work with local educational, economic, and environmental initiatives.

Elephants + Hikes + Challenge

On the way to Amba, you’ll pass through Udawalawe National Park, home to some of Sri Lanka’s largest wild elephant herds. Keep your binoculars handy for an unforgettable wildlife experience.

Once settled, your first evening begins with a gentle one-hour hike through a 50-acre forest reserve. Explore hidden caves, listen to the roar of waterfalls, and end the hike with a sundowner at a ridge with a stunning view over Ella’s Rock.

The next day is for those ready to take on a bit of a challenge. A four-hour hike awaits, climbing over 400 meters to the top of Ella’s Rock. The view at the summit is nothing short of magical, with sweeping vistas over Ella’s Gap and Little Adam’s Peak—a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when you step beyond your comfort zone. After your descent, enjoy a leisurely lunch in Ella town and take in the local culture. A moderate fitness level is required, but the sense of achievement is worth every step.

On your final morning in the highlands, enjoy a breakfast picnic at Lipton’s Seat, where the stunning views offer the perfect farewell to this remarkable region. "It turns out I can do more and be more than I had realised"

Five Stars to Milly and her team for organising a wholly wholesome and wonderfully colourful time on the paradise island of Sri Lanka for our mid-life trip. The well-managed blend of work and play suited me very well.

Each bit of volunteering taught me a great deal about myself and my own strengths: it turns out I can do more and be more than I had realised. Thank you.

"A real sense of adventure but without any associated hassle"

I absolutely loved the Leap Mid-Life Sri Lanka Trip. It was such a tonic! There was a real sense of adventure but without any associated hassle. Milly and the Sri Lankan team couldn’t have been more helpful or accommodating; nothing was a problem and they were also excellent company. Our mornings were spent volunteering at the inspiring Tekanda Foundation and afternoons offered further activities or an option to chill by the pool. The balance was perfect.

We were delighted to arrive at the Amba Tea Estate in the central highlands. It’s an incredibly special place with fabulous hiking and stunning views. Yet again, we were made to feel so welcome and treated to delicious food, memorable sundowners and a fascinating Tea Plantation Tour.

I felt bereft when the trip came to an end and I’m so delighted to have done it. I would definitely book with The Leap again.

"Bespoke but not pretentious"

I think both Tekanda and Alba made us feel special. So well treated and particularly by the Pembrokes. I loved the volunteering . I treasure my shirt. Again we were made to feel so welcome. Great to feel useful. I also loved the trip to the national park. All in all, I loved our trip. You managed to make it bespoke but not pretentious. We were spoiled but not spoilt so too speak!

- Susannah O'Brien

"Never been away solo before so was very apprehensive but I thoroughly enjoyed myself."

Wow what a fantastic trip I throughly enjoyed myself. The first thing i would like to comment is Milly she did a great job of caring for us and putting this amazing adventure together, we were never bored ! loved the volunteering part of this trip, very humbling and Tekanda Lodge was just beautiful a real paradise, delicious food, the staff couldn't have looked after us better.

All in all a truly memorable experience shared with a lovely bunch of ladies. Gilly .

"Exceeded my expectations"

The accommodation at Tekanda Lodge was top notch as was the delicious food. The charity aspect was very rewarding and enjoyed the activities especially yoga before breakfast. Great to see the work assisting artisan tea plantations in the central highlands after jungle and beaches. Just fabulous!
