Most school reunions involve a lunch, a party or perhaps a weekend away.
This group of fourteen women wanted something very different: the chance to reconnect through meaningful contribution, shared challenge and an adventure none of them would ever forget.
So rather than simply booking a holiday together, they asked The Leap to create a journey that would take them inside Peru - connecting them with local people and projects before exploring the Sacred Valley and taking on the challenge of Machu Picchu.
The group had known one another since school, but years of busy lives meant opportunities for all fourteen to spend proper time together were rare.
They wanted a reunion that would give them more than sightseeing. They were looking for shared purpose, laughter, challenge and the chance to create an entirely new chapter in a friendship that had already lasted for decades.
The itinerary needed to feel special and adventurous, while giving everyone time to enjoy being together.
Through our partnership with the Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development, the group spent time alongside local teams and farming communities in the High Andes.
The organisation works with communities responding to the challenges of farming at altitude, environmental change and the need to protect traditional livelihoods.
The group contributed to ongoing, locally led work while learning about sustainable farming, reforestation and the importance of secure water supplies to remote Andean communities.
Rather than simply passing through the landscape, they met the people whose lives and work shape it. They heard their stories, learnt about the realities of farming in the High Andes and experienced a side of Peru most visitors never have the opportunity to see.
This was not an activity created for tourists. It was an invitation to step into established work, learn from the people leading it and contribute where help was genuinely useful.
After their time with the Andean Alliance, the focus shifted from contribution to exploration and shared challenge.
The group travelled through the Sacred Valley, discovering its extraordinary landscapes, communities and historic sites. This part of the journey gave them time to absorb Peru’s history and culture, as well as relax and enjoy being together.
Reaching Machu Picchu became the great shared challenge and emotional high point of their Tailored Leap.
It required encouragement, humour and the determination to keep going together - but arriving at one of the world’s most remarkable places made every step worthwhile.
They had not simply travelled through Peru. They had worked, learnt, explored and achieved something together.
What made this journey special was not one individual activity. It was the way every element came together.
Project work gave the group a deeper connection with Peru. The Sacred Valley brought culture, history and extraordinary landscapes. Machu Picchu provided the challenge and shared sense of achievement.
Most importantly, the experience gave fourteen old friends uninterrupted time together, creating a completely new collection of memories and stories to add to those they had shared since school.
