Kenya Itinerary

marine conservation + community development + safari

This is more than a holiday. It's an opportunity to step away from everyday routines and immerse yourself in a world of purpose, adventure and connection. Working alongside inspiring local projects, exploring Kenya's spectacular coastline and experiencing the magic of safari, you'll return home refreshed, inspired and with a renewed sense of what is possible.

Day 1

Mombasa + Vipingo

Arrival

Your adventure begins as you arrive on Kenya's beautiful coast and transfer to your private beachside home for the week. Settle into your surroundings, meet your fellow travellers and enjoy your first taste of coastal Kenya.

With views across the Indian Ocean and the sound of the waves in the background, this is the perfect place to leave everyday life behind and embrace the adventure ahead.

Day 2

Vipingo

Marine Projects + Permaculture

Begin your day with a peaceful walk along the beach as the Indian Ocean gently comes to life around you. Later, you'll head to Oceans Alive to meet Katana, Head of Marine Conservation, and gain a fascinating insight into one of Kenya's most successful community-led marine conservation projects. Donning your mask and snorkel, you'll explore the vibrant coral reefs that lie just offshore and learn how local communities are working to protect and restore these precious ecosystems.

You'll then have the opportunity to get hands-on with the coral restoration programme. Working alongside the Oceans Alive team, you'll help care for young coral growing in underwater nurseries and contribute to the creation of new reef structures that provide vital habitat for marine life. It's a rare chance to be part of a conservation initiative delivering measurable, long-term impact.

After some time to relax back at the house, the afternoon takes you from ocean to land as you visit Oceans Alive's permaculture project. Led by the local team, this inspiring initiative helps local families develop sustainable food sources and alternative livelihoods. Through innovative techniques such as vertical gardens, water conservation and organic growing methods, communities are building resilience while reducing pressure on the marine environment.

As the sun begins to set, you'll return to your beachside home to unwind, reflect on the day's experiences and enjoy another magical evening on Kenya's beautiful coast.

Day 3

Vipingo + Kilifi

Marine Projects + Dhow

After a relaxed breakfast overlooking the Indian Ocean, you'll join Katana and the Oceans Alive team for another hands-on conservation experience. Today you'll help create coral plugs, attaching coral fragments to small structures that will be nurtured in underwater nurseries before helping to restore the reef. It's a simple but powerful way to contribute to the recovery of this remarkable marine ecosystem.

Later, after some time to relax back at the house, you'll head to Kilifi Creek for a traditional sunset dhow cruise. Drift through peaceful mangrove-lined waterways as the African sun casts a golden glow across the water. It's a magical and memorable way to end another inspiring day on Kenya's coast.

Day 4

Vipingo

Marine Projects + Jiko Stoves

This morning, you'll return to the reef to continue supporting Oceans Alive's coral restoration programme.

After some time to relax back at the house, the afternoon focuses on community impact. You'll join a local initiative building jiko stoves, an ingenious, fuel-efficient alternative to traditional cooking methods. These simple but transformative stoves reduce wood consumption, help protect local forests and provide families with a more sustainable way to prepare and preserve food. It's a hands-on experience that offers a fascinating insight into how practical, community-led solutions can create lasting environmental and social change.
