Before leaving for Kenya, you'll take part in a workshop introducing Oceans Alive, the Women's Empowerment Centre and your live business brief.
You'll explore what it means to work as a junior consultant, how to approach an unfamiliar business challenge and the importance of cultural awareness, communication and teamwork.
You'll arrive in Kenya knowing what you're there to achieve.
Conservation + Community + Sustainable Livelihoods
Two days of immersion, discovery and understanding
Your first challenge is to understand the bigger picture.
Meet the Oceans Alive team, local fishermen, women and community leaders. Discover how protecting the coral reef is connected to creating alternative sources of food and income for the surrounding communities.
You'll explore coral restoration projects, experience village life and begin to understand the opportunities and challenges facing the community.
These first two days give you the cultural understanding, local knowledge and business context you'll need before tackling your challenge.

Now it's time to put your OMBS learning to work.
Working in teams, you'll help Oceans Alive explore how its new Women's Empowerment Centre could develop into a viable, sustainable enterprise.
You'll investigate potential products and income opportunities, customers, pricing, branding, routes to market and digital marketing.
From clothing and crafts to vegetable growing and sea moss, the challenge is to identify practical opportunities that could help local women build independent incomes.
Real people. Real challenges. No textbook answers.

Think Like a Junior Consultant
Using what you've discovered, you'll work together to develop realistic business recommendations.
You'll need to listen, question assumptions, test ideas and adapt your thinking to local circumstances and resources.
With guidance from the Oceans Alive team, you'll bring together your business and media skills to create recommendations that could genuinely help the centre move forward.

Adventure Beyond the Classroom
This isn't an internship in an office.
You'll snorkel over coral restoration sites, sail along Kilifi Creek on a traditional dhow, experience village life, meet the local acrobats and head off on an overnight bush camping adventure.
These experiences aren't just about having fun. They're about stepping outside your comfort zone, building friendships and discovering what you're capable of.

Real Experience. Real Evidence.
At the end of your internship, you'll present your recommendations to the Oceans Alive team, explaining your thinking, findings and proposed solutions.
You'll reflect on the challenges you've faced, the skills you've developed and the contribution you've made.
You'll return to OMBS with a live business project you can use in your coursework, practical examples for your CV and interviews, and a clearer understanding of your own professional strengths.
You won't just learn about business. You'll have used it.
FYI “Activities and project sessions are woven throughout the programme; the order may vary to suit local conditions and project needs.” That removes any expectation of a fixed itinerary.

After 10 unforgettable days, you'll return home in the early morning full of stories, new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
More importantly, you'll return with new perspectives, a greater understanding of the world around you and a stronger sense of what you're capable of achieving.
The adventure may be over, but the impact will stay with you long after you leave Kenya.
