A week that shifts your perspective, and stays with you
In February, a group of midlife women swapped the grey of a British winter for something far more meaningful - a hands-on conservation and community mission on Kenya’s coastline.
This wasn’t a holiday.
It was a reset.
A chance to step out of everyday life and into something purposeful, connecting with people, contributing to real projects, and experiencing a completely different way of living.
Based in Vipingo, just north of Kilifi, the group stayed in a beautiful beachside house overlooking the Indian Ocean, a space that offered both comfort and calm after meaningful days on the ground.
Mornings started slowly - coffee, sea air, bare feet on cool tiles - before stepping into a completely different rhythm of life.
But what made the experience unforgettable wasn’t the setting.
It was the people.
The group partnered with Oceans Alive, a long-standing, community-led conservation organisation focused on protecting marine ecosystems and supporting local livelihoods.
This is not a project created for visitors.
It’s real, ongoing work, and Leapers step into it as part of the team.
Throughout the week, the group contributed across multiple initiatives:
Nothing felt tokenistic.
Everything was connected.
One of the most powerful moments didn’t happen on the reef or building site, it happened under a tree.
The group sat with local women, sharing stories about life, identity, independence, and change.
Different worlds.
But so many shared experiences.
It was raw, honest, and deeply human, the kind of connection that stays with you long after you leave.
While the work is meaningful, the experience is carefully balanced.
There were ocean swims, massages, sunset sails along Kilifi Creek, and a final safari in Tsavo East, bringing the wider conservation story to life.
Because this isn’t just about giving.
It’s about perspective.
Seeing how everything connects - people, wildlife, ocean, land - and where you fit within it.
What makes this different is how you’re welcomed in.
You’re not observing from the outside.
You’re part of it.
You leave with:
In fact, many from this group are already planning to return, next time with their families.
We’re now opening this mission to individuals, friends, and families who want more than just a holiday.
