THE LEAP JOURNAL

A Family Holiday with Conservation in Kenya

Beach Life. Conservation. Safari. Time Together.

This family wanted more than a beach holiday followed by a safari.

They wanted to enjoy beautiful accommodation and proper family time while also giving everyone the opportunity to get involved, learn and experience a side of Kenya that ordinary visitors rarely see.

Their Tailored Leap gave them the best of both worlds.

The People

The family wanted an experience they could share and remember for years to come.

Comfort and downtime mattered, but so did giving the holiday more substance. They wanted to introduce the family to meaningful conservation, meet local people and understand the country beyond its beaches and wildlife.

We created a journey that balanced contribution, relaxation and adventure without allowing any one element to overwhelm the others.

The Access

The family stayed in beautiful beachside accommodation on Kenya’s Indian Ocean coastline and spent five days alongside the team at Oceans Alive.

Oceans Alive is an award-winning, community-led conservation organisation working to protect the coastline, restore its marine environment and create sustainable livelihoods.

During the day, the family helped build fuel-efficient stoves for local households, took part in hands-on coral restoration and learnt directly from the people leading the work.

They saw how healthier reefs, reduced pressure on natural resources and stronger local livelihoods are all connected.

At the end of each day, they returned to the beach to swim, relax and enjoy being together. It felt like a fabulous family holiday, but with something much more meaningful woven into it.

The Experience

After five purposeful days beside the ocean, the family swapped coral reefs and coastal communities for the vast landscapes of the Kenyan bush.

Safari brought a completely different rhythm to the journey: expert guiding, extraordinary wildlife and the shared excitement of seeing Kenya’s wild landscapes come to life.

The contrast made the experience particularly special. One week had taken them from hands-on conservation and beach living to elephants, open savannah and evenings beneath the African sky.

Why This Tailored Leap Worked

  • Beautiful accommodation made it feel like a genuine family holiday
  • Five project days created purpose without taking over the whole trip
  • Oceans Alive gave the family access to real conservation work
  • The activities were practical, varied and suitable for doing together
  • Safari provided a spectacular final chapter
  • Everyone returned with a deeper understanding of Kenya
