Engineering a Different Kind of Adventure in Peru

This group of friends and colleagues from an engineering company in the United States wanted more than a conventional group holiday.

They wanted to put their practical experience to use, contribute to something meaningful and take on a genuine challenge together.

The result was a Tailored Leap that took them deep into the High Andes - first to work alongside local farmers and then to follow a bespoke four-day route to Machu Picchu.

The People

Although they worked for the same engineering company, this was a group of friends looking for an experience they could share outside the office.

They wanted an adventure with substance: something practical, immersive and challenging enough to create a real sense of achievement.

Their engineering background gave us the perfect starting point.

The Access

Through our partnership with the Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development, the group travelled into a remote corner of the High Andes.

They spent five days living and working alongside the local team and farming communities, helping develop an irrigation system and reforest an area above the community’s strawberry farms.

The work gave the group an insight into the challenges of farming at altitude and the importance of protecting the landscape, water supplies and traditional livelihoods.

Surrounded by vast mountain scenery, they experienced Andean life from the inside while contributing their energy and practical skills to work shaped and led locally.

This was not a project designed to entertain visitors. It was established work responding to a genuine need—and an opportunity made possible through relationships built over many years.

The Experience

After five purposeful days, the group swapped tools for trekking boots.

They set off on a bespoke four-day route through remote valleys and across high mountain passes, travelling through landscapes few visitors ever reach before arriving at Machu Picchu.

The trek provided the physical challenge they had been looking for, while the project gave the journey a much deeper sense of purpose.

They did not simply see Peru. They contributed, learnt and achieved something together.
