For many teenagers, summer is about taking a break from school. But what if those holidays could become something far more valuable?
Imagine spending 10 days on Kenya's spectacular Indian Ocean coast, restoring coral reefs, supporting local communities, spotting elephants on safari and making lifelong friends. Now imagine returning home with greater confidence, independence and real-world experiences that will stay with you long after the tan has faded.
That's exactly what our Under 18 Kenya programme is designed to do.
At The Leap, we believe travel should do more than simply take you somewhere new. It should help shape the person you become. That's why every one of our programmes combines challenge, culture and contribution to create experiences that are as rewarding as they are unforgettable.
There are plenty of holidays where teenagers can relax by the pool or spend hours on their phones.
Our Kenya programme offers something completely different.
Based in the beautiful coastal village of Vipingo, students become part of a supportive team of like-minded young people from across the UK. Every day brings a new adventure, whether that's working alongside marine conservationists, meeting local communities or heading into the African bush in search of wildlife.
Rather than simply seeing Kenya as a tourist, students experience it through meaningful connections with the people, wildlife and environment that make this incredible country so special.
One of the highlights of the programme is working alongside Oceans Alive, one of East Africa's leading marine conservation organisations.
Students may find themselves helping to restore fragile coral reefs, taking part in beach clean-ups or supporting environmental projects that protect Kenya's unique marine ecosystems.
Community projects are equally rewarding. From helping to build cleaner cookstoves to supporting local initiatives, every activity has been carefully chosen to create a positive, lasting impact while giving students a deeper understanding of life in coastal Kenya.
This isn't volunteering for the sake of ticking a box. It's about becoming part of projects that are already making a genuine difference.
Of course, no trip to Kenya would be complete without adventure.
The itinerary is created to offer variety. One day you could be sailing on a traditional Swahili dhow across the turquoise Indian Ocean. The next, you might be snorkelling over colourful coral reefs before ending the day around a beach bonfire with your new friends.
Then comes one of the biggest highlights of the entire trip, an unforgettable safari in Tsavo National Park.
Seeing elephants, giraffes, zebras and other incredible wildlife in their natural habitat is an experience that few teenagers ever forget. It's often the moment that reminds students just how extraordinary our world really is.
Parents often tell us they're amazed by the difference they see when their child returns home.
That's because growth happens naturally when young people step outside their comfort zone.
Travelling without parents, working as part of a team, communicating with people from different cultures and tackling new challenges all help develop qualities that simply can't be taught in a classroom.
Students regularly return with greater confidence, improved communication skills, stronger resilience and a new sense of independence.
These are life skills that benefit them long after the adventure has finished.
Academic grades are important, but universities, employers and apprenticeship providers increasingly want to see evidence of initiative, leadership and real-world experience.
Our Kenya programme gives students countless examples they can draw upon when writing personal statements, attending interviews or applying for future opportunities.
For those wanting to go one step further, there's also the option to complete the Diploma in International Volunteering, an accredited qualification worth 16 UCAS points. It provides a recognised framework for reflecting on the skills, knowledge and personal development gained throughout the experience.
We understand that sending your teenager abroad is a big decision.
That's why we've spent more than 25 years developing programmes that balance adventure with exceptional support.
From the moment families book, our experienced UK team is on hand to answer questions and help students prepare. Once in Kenya, experienced leaders and trusted local partners provide guidance every step of the way, supported by comprehensive safeguarding procedures and 24-hour emergency support.
Parents can relax knowing their child is in safe hands, while students enjoy the freedom to grow in a carefully managed environment.
One of the things our students talk about most isn't the safari or the beaches.
It's the people.
Sharing new experiences creates friendships incredibly quickly. Whether working together on conservation projects, laughing around the dinner table or reflecting on the day's adventures, students build connections that often continue long after they return to the UK.
Many stay in touch for years, with some even travelling together again in the future.
Our Under 18 Kenya programme is packed with incredible experiences, but what makes it truly special is what students take home with them.
They return with unforgettable memories, a broader perspective on the world and the confidence to embrace whatever comes next.
It's an adventure filled with marine conservation, community impact, cultural immersion and safari.
But perhaps most importantly, it's an investment in the person your teenager is becoming.
Because the best adventures don't just change where you go.
They change who you become.
